Treating Minor Burns
- Cool the burn: Hold the affected area under cool (not cold) running water for about 10-15 minutes. For a face burn, apply a cool wet cloth to the area until the pain subsides. Do not apply ice to a skin burn as it can worsen it.
- Remove tight items: remove jewelry or tight clothing around the burn area quickly and gently
- Do not break blisters on the burn.
- Apply lotion: After the burn is cool, apply a lotion with aloe vera or cocoa butter. This prevents drying and relief.
- Cover with clean cloth: Cover the burn with an adhesive bandage or clean cloth. Wrap it loosely around the affected area.
When to seek medical attention
